WatchOn August 22, I entered a contest where the winner gets to win a beautiful watch worth $195.   Before that I had written a paid post about this company called Fellins Gifts and Jewelry on Puteri’s Musings.

I just received an email from Fellins notifying me that I had won the contest! I am surprised at how lucky I was and I just love to enter blog contests!  Now I am motivated to participate in more contest!  :-)

The Men’s Turn

September 26, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

Helio Castroneves and his professional partner, Julianne Hough

Last night it was the men’s turn to do the foxtrot and the cha cha cha in the Dancing with the Star’s new season. I think generally they were not all that bad.

I like IndyCar champ Helio Castroneves style. He’s good-looking, smiles a lot and can dance!

I was surprised that at the very low marks that boxing champ, Floyd Mayweather, got. He was energetic, and his posture wasn’t that great but I didn’t think his performance was all that bad. He has the potential, and I think he will get better.

Multi-millionaire, Mark Cuban danced not too badly but his facial expression and lip-syncing really need to be put in check!

I was getting my kids ready for bed, and missed Mr Las Vegas, Wayne Newton’s, performance. By all accounts it wasn’t too great a performance!

Oh well, I shouldn’t miss the results show tonight, if I am going to follow this show closely!

Dancing with the Stars

September 25, 2007 By: Puteri Category: TV shows No Comments →

Jane SeymourThere are only two TV shows that I try to follow quite religiously.  One is Dancing with the Stars and the other is American Idol.

Imagine how pleased I was that I managed to catch the premier episode of the Dancing with the Stars last night!  It was by chance that I discovered that it was premiering last night.  So by 8.00 pm I was firmly ensconced on my sofa chair with the remote control in my hand.

Wayne Newton is the only male participant that I recognize in the competition this season and as for the ladies, I recognize Jennie Garth, Jane Seymour, former Spice girl Mel Brown, and of course Marie Osmond.  The other two ladies are Sabrina Bryan and Josie Maran.

The show started off with the ladies dancing either the Cha Cha Cha or the foxtrot.  Jane Seymour was the epitome of grace and elegance in her foxtrot dance routine.  Despite being the oldest contestant, I believe she can go very far in the competition.  Marie Osmond was such a breath of fresh air.  She is quite the performer which made up for her lack of dancing skills.

Drew Lachey, winner of the second season, filled in for Samantha Harris who was still on maternity leave.

I can’t wait for the men to start dancing!

Married Men Do Less Housework

September 11, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Lifestyle 4 Comments →

A study of more than 17,000 people in 28 countries found that married men report doing less housework than live-in boyfriends, U.S. researchers said.

Sociologist Shannon Davis of George Mason University, and co-authors Theodore Greenstein and Jennifer Gerteisen Marks of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., say their key finding suggests the institution of marriage changes the division of labor even for couples who see men and women as equal.

The study, published in Journal of Family Issues, found that in married relationships, even if an egalitarian viewpoint is present, men still report doing less housework than their wives.

“Our research suggests that couples across many countries are influenced by similar factors when deciding how to divide the housework,” Davis says in a statement. “It’s the way the society has defined what being married means, the institution itself, that affects behavior.”

The researchers say they did not track co-habitating couples over time to see if their division of housework changed after marriage.

So what else is new,eh? For my case, I know for sure that my husband does more housework than any of my married brothers! I appreciate my husband’s help around the house. He does more than take the trash out on trash day. He helps with the dishes, helps with the kids - bathing, feeding and dressing them, as well as attend to all yard work.

Britney’s Comeback Flop

September 10, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Hollywood Buzz 5 Comments →

Britney Spears comeback at the MTV Award in Las Vegas was a flop. She should just have stayed home and looked after her kids. She is so totally out of shape - look at that fat tummy! Almost as bad as mine! Heheh. And that awful looking hair! She didn’t even do a good job lip-syncing!

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) — Embarrassing. God-awful. Painful. Excruciating.

Britney SpearsThose are but a few of the words that audience members used to describe Britney Spears ill-fated “comeback” performance at the MTV Video Awards at Las Vegas’ Palms Hotel Sunday evening.

When Spears hit the stage the crowd roared. Moments later many were staring in stunned silence. Train wrecks have a way of doing that to people.

One woman dressed in a low-plunging floral gown did manage to eke out a few words. They were not nice.

“Britney looks like a hot, sweaty mess,” she declared, as the singer lip-synched her way through her latest single, “Gimme More.” “Look at her. She’s barely moving.”

Others criticized everything from Spears’ weight (mushy midsection) to her hair (cheap wig or weave) and still others wondered if she was, in their words, “on something.”

In the past, Spears has managed to deliver memorable performances (dancing with a yellow python; making out with Madonna), but in a women’s bathroom at the Palms Hotel, none were discussing her glory years. When not touching up their lipstick or fixing their hair, the ladies had a ball eviscerating Spears.

Teetering on perilously high stilettos, one woman in a skirt the size of a handkerchief pronounced Spears’ career over. “She soooo should have stayed home; it was really sad. What was the point?”

Farewell Pavarotti

September 08, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Celebrities 4 Comments →

Indeed Pavarotti’s passing is a talent lost. Who can forget such operatic talent? Who can forget Pavarotti’s Nessun Dorma? Farewell Pavarotti. Rest in peace.

MODENA, Italy - Luciano Pavarotti received a final, tearful standing ovation at his somber funeral Saturday after a recording of the Italian tenor and his father singing “Panis Angelicus” filled his hometown cathedral.

Many of the mourners cried as Pavarotti’s unmistakable voice filled the cathedral, a poignant reminder of the talent lost with his death Thursday at age 71 after a yearlong battle with cancer.
