Used Car Warranty

December 23, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

Doug was telling about a blog he was reading yesterday where the blogger gave reasons why he had never bought a brand new car. Among the reasons was he didn’t have to deal with car salesmen who usually try to sell a car buyer all kinds of upgrades for the new car.

Doug and I have always bought used cars ourselves and I think if we do buy a slightly newer used car, we would want to get ourselves a Used Car Warranty, preferably one that comes from the manufacturer, because we never know what is under the hood! Better to pay a little extra than be sorry we never did!

Last Minute Shopping

December 23, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Shopping No Comments →

xmascard4.jpg

Yesterday, my friend Kathy, and I went shopping at Joann’s. There was a big sale at Joann’s and Kathy wanted to get material for curtains and bumper pads for her first grandchild who will make an appearance to the world in early April. She was able to use discount coupons on everything that she bought.

I bought a book on bag making, some interfacing also for my bag making projects and two pieces of fabric for making more bags! I was also able to use my discount coupons on everything except for one piece of fabric. The fabric was already on sale so I couldn’t use my coupon on it. I paid $5 for half a yard of this fabric … it is faux leather! Heheh, looks very much like the real thing but it is actually made of cotton! Really nice looking!

I still have today and Christmas Eve to do last minute shopping but I don’t think I’ll do any more shopping. I’ll wait for the after Christmas sales for more savings!

The only shopping I need to do is for my Christmas meal. I haven’t decided what I want to prepare. I don’t think I’ll go to all the trouble I did fixing the Thanksgiving meal, because it’ll just be us. My in-laws are on vacation in Europe.

Here’s wishing everyone a blessed and joyous CHRISTmas season.

Green Bags

December 21, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

My husband is always complaining about the rotting vegetables in our refrigerator. After I’ve done my produce shopping I usually stash them, shopping bags and all in the vegetable drawers in the refrigerator. I seldom go through what else are in there and throw away those that are no good any more. Many times some of them are so rotten that they have liquefied! Yucks!

I just discovered that with Debbie Myer’s Green Bags, I can keep my vegetables, fruit and even flowers fresh much longer. What is so unique about these bags is that they absorb the ethylene gas released by fruit, vegetables, and flowers. This gas is what causes them to age and rot. Another good thing about these bags is that they can be reused up to 10 times more.

I know I will want to have these Green Bags around in the spring when I have more tomatoes and vegetable, from my garden, that I can use at any one time!

Late with my Christmas cards

December 21, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Celebrations, Holidays No Comments →

celtic-christmas-card.gif

It’s Friday and Christmas is on Tuesday next week. I just walked to my mailbox and dropped off 2 Christmas cards. I hope they’ll arrive at their destinations by Monday at least! Hehe, otherwise my friends, one in Georgia and the other in Utah, will receive their cards after Christmas!

I don’t know how it was that I missed them totally from my Christmas list this year. Doug did all the writing and mailing, and I just gave him my list. Better late than never, eh! I have received many cards after Christmas and some even came after the New Year!

Doug is sending out our Christmas newsletter via email to several friends especially those living overseas. It is a bit late to be sending them any cards right now, and we don’t have the mailing addresses to some of them. That reminds me, I need to email my Christmas newsletter to my friend in Holland! She emailed me some weeks ago informing me that she’ll be expecting her first baby in February.

Looks my Christmas mailing is not done yet!

Socks

December 19, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

I love socks, my mother-in-law loves socks, and my 4 year-old daughter loves socks. We have socks that are one color, colorful, with patterns and even those that celebrate the holidays like Halloween and Christmas. My son loves the Spider Man and the Dreamz socks.

Right now I prefer the thin socks with my shoes because thicker socks make my shoes feel tight. I like my feet to feel comfortable in my shoes.

Since it is winter now, my daughter loves to wear tights with her dresses. I have bought her dark tights and even those with little cartoon characters on them. If I let her, she will even wear her tights to bed at night!

Anyway, if you are looking for a place that sells socks, tights, leggings and leg warmers, you might want to check out Hue Socks at Hue.com.

Getting rid of loiterers

December 19, 2007 By: Puteri Category: News No Comments →

Do you own a business? Do you have teenagers loitering outside your business? Have you thought of ways of getting rid of them but they do not seem to work?

How about having violin concerto music playing 24 hours a day coming from speakers heard within a 25 feet of your business?

Yes, it works! Why? Well, most loiterers are kids, and hip and cool kids do not like violin music! Whoever it was who came up with this suggestion sure knew the way kids’s minds work!

Or if you want to go high tech, a gadget called the Sonic Teenager Deterrent works just as well.It emits an uncomfortable high-pitched noise designed to disperse young loiterers outside businesses who has installed this gadget without bothering adults.

Swimwear

December 19, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

Recently, I bought a one piece swim wear on clearance. I was very happy to get it because the style was just what I was looking for. It has a built in skirt with something over the tummy that is supposed to flatter the shape of your mid section. The only thing I wished was better fitting was the bust area. I don’t know how it is that designers of clothes, and swim wear designers included, always assume that women all come well endowed in the bust area! It frustrates me to no end that I can’t find swim wear that flatters my bust as well as my tummy!

I think it is a lot easier for women with a much fuller figure to find full busted swimwear than it is for women with a less than full figure to find swim wear that flatters their bust!

Or could it be that I have looking for swim wear in the wrong places?

Gift cards for health care?

December 19, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Lifestyle No Comments →

healthcaregiftcard.jpgHave you heard that among the popular stocking stuffers this year are health care gift cards? Hehe, this is the first I have heard of such a gift card!

I mean, I’d love to receive gift cards to a spa, a massage, or even a gift card to a beauty salon. But a health care gift card? Oh, they are mostly given to older adults! Heheh.

Maybe when I am older and wrinkled I won’t mind a gift card for Botox or a face lift. But I think my health insurance will take care of the colon screening, or the diabetic screening, so I don’t think a health care gift card will do me much good, except maybe if it helps with my prescription co-pays!

Over the shoulder bag

December 19, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Uncategorized 1 Comment →

I love bags with handles, bags with short straps and bags that can be slung over the shoulder. I make them myself using fabric but that does not mean I have stopped buying bags! I love leather bags and I have never sewn leather. If I see a leather bag that I really like I will buy it!

I saw a Buxton Over the Shoulder Bag, and I know for certain that I want this bag! It has an over the shoulder adjustable strap, and it is expandable. It is made of genuine soft leather and comes in three colors - tan, red, and black. What I really like about this bag is that it has pockets, inside and out, and even interior mesh zippered pockets to hold things like keys, cell phone and other little miscellaneous stuff secure. I like these kinds of pockets because I can still see what is in there. The other zippered pockets are large enough for all kinds of things that you need to reach quickly and they can even fit in a bottle of water and a small umbrella. Now that is what I call versatile!

I will most certainly put this Buxton bag in my Christmas wish list. It is still not too late to add an item on that list!

Human fat powered race boat

December 19, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Uncategorized No Comments →

earthrace.jpg

The fastest eco boat on the planet will attempt to break the round the world speed record using fuel made from human fat.

Pete Bethune, the New Zealand skipper of Earthrace, said the attempt to circumnavigate the globe would begin from Valencia in Spain on March 1 next year.

Bethune and his wife mortgaged their house and sold everything they own to help make the project happen, while continuing to seek support from sponsors.

Demonstrating further commitment to the cause, Bethune underwent liposuction and donated enough to produce 100ml of biofuel, while two other, larger volunteers also had the procedure, making a total of 10 litres of human fat.

This in turn produced seven litres of biofuel, which could help the boat travel about 15km.

Earthrace is fuelled on 100 per cent biodiesel and has a net zero carbon footprint.

Full story here.

Huh? Did I read the story right? Did the story just say that the boat was powered completely by human fat? :???: Bio-diesal made from human fat?  Now, that’s novel!!

I am sure there is enough human fat left over from liposuctions to power many more boats!  Yea, why not use human fat to power more vehicles.  I hope it doesn’t produce a kind of smell like burnt skin!  Blehhh.  That would be stomach turning!

I am all for reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, but I do not want bio-diesel  made from food crops because that would only cause the prices of food to skyrocket.

I also have a thought.  If bio-diesel is mainly produced from plants or what ever that needs to be grown, won’t that in the long run cause the degradation of land in general?  :!:
