Blogging News

January 04, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Blogging News No Comments →

It has been a while since I entered a blog contest. I have completely forgotten about entering blog contests because I was too busy blogging. It’s fun to win something, and so far I have only won once from these contests. Contest Blogger is running another contest and giving away $100 dollars to the lucky winner of his sweepstakes contest.

The last couple of months of the previous year have been quite good for me in terms of my earnings from writing paid posts. Having three blogs to spread around the paid posts sure help! I even managed to snag a video opp, the highest paying opp I’ve done so far. The video was initially rejected due to technicalities but I was able to redo the video and resubmit. The re-submitted video was approved the next day. Simply great!

This year, I hope to increase my earnings from my blogging activities. My earnings from Adsense is slowly building up. Slowly, being the operative word. But hey, no matter the amount it is still income, right?

It’s great to write for fun, but it is even greater to get paid to write for fun! :-) How I wished I could become a pro-blogger like some people, and make most of my money from advertising and not from writing paid posts.

My favorite blog was penalized and lost its Page Rank of 3 for having paid posts in it, and this blog too will get penalized, I am sure, when Google comes around doing their ranking thing again. So before that happens, I will make as much as I can while it still has some ranking!

I bought a domain name for my hobby blog and hope to put some of my creations for sale. The jewelry pieces and bags that I want to sell will be posted on that blog. I have the blog ready but have not posted anything on it yet. I have to take the pictures of my creations again for posting on that blog.

Doug has suggested I compile some of my favorite posts from my blogs into a book and self-publish it. There are so many places you can go to to publish whatever you want. So it is not impossible to be a published author, eh!

So what are your blogging plans for this new year? More of the same? :-)

PR Angst

October 30, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Blogging News No Comments →

I mentioned how pissed I was about my most popular blog, Puteri’s Musings, at dropping one notch from PR 3 to PR 2. I have been reading about the whys blogs have lost their ranking and the only thing I can think of, as it relates to my blog, is the paid posts that I do on that blog.

All my friends whose blogs did not have any rank before this have theirs gone up from PR 0 to PR 3. It seems it is easier to get a 3 from a 0 than it is to move up from a 3 to a 4 or even remain a 3. One blog I know of is updated regularly but she also does paid posts, and her blog only moved from 0 to 2. If she had not done any paid posts I am sure hers would be a 3 too, because her blog is no different than the others who moved from a 0 to 3.

We will see if those blogs who got a 3 from a 0, will remain a 3 the next time Google does the ranking thing, especially if those new PR 3 blogs do paid posts. I doubt very much if they will, unless Google changes their mind about penalising bloggers for doing paid posts.

On the bright side to this latest round of PR thing, all my new blogs have gone from PR 0 to PR 2. I wished though, as least one could have gone to a PR 3. At least the disappointment of dropping one rank on my busiest blog won’t be so bad.

Paid Posts

August 29, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Blogging News No Comments →

Last night I signed up with two more paid posts outfits. One, Blogvertise, does not specify whether I can submit more than one blog, so I submitted Puteri’s Musings. That blog was accepted in less than 24 hours. I submitted my first task for them this morning.

For the other outfit, Bloggerwave, I submitted three blogs, including this blog. I was very happy when I opened my email this morning and there were three notifications from them telling me all three blogs have been accepted.

What make these two outfits different from PayPerPost is that both will accept blogs that are less than three months old. I have three blogs that are less than a month old and all three blogs have been accepted. My blogs may be new but there are several posts in each of them so that could be a reason why they got accepted quite quickly.

If you are interested in doing paid posts, but think your blog does not qualify, check out these two outfits! If your blog has very few posts, then you better start writing and updating your blog more regularly so you can submit your blog too. It is fun to be able to make some money out of blogging! :*

Maximizing Google AdSense

August 08, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Blogging News No Comments →

I haven’t made much money from the Google AdSense ads placed on my blogs. Well, not yet anyway. One day as I checked the day’s earnings I was pleasantly surprised to have made a total of $1.98 from three clicks whereas the day before I only made $0.25 from three clicks. How did that happen?

Today I read what expensive and inexpensive keywords mean when it comes to advertising on the internet. Apparently some words have more value than others. This has got to do with the number of times these words, called keywords, are used during search engine searches. For example, the keyword “paint” is approximately worth 19 cents while the keyworkd “painting” is approximately worth 45 cents. Throw in “home re-modeling” and those words cost approximately $1.70.

I must have used a keyword that attracted an AdSense ad that had high keyword value. And that led to my $1.98 earnings for 3 clicks that day.

Now, what I need to do is figure out what the high value keywords are, and somehow fill my blog with such quality content so as to attract high value ads on my Google AdSense. That is not enough of course. There has to be enough people visiting my blog and hopefully many of them will click and follow the ad links on my blog. Yeah, if only it was that easy! :-)

The location of the AdSense ad is also important. I have seen targeted ads placed within the content of a post. I tried doing that, to test the effectiveness of such placement, but so far the kinds of links that show up are those that had to do with earlier entries!

There is such a thing called channels in my AdSense account. I never figured what that was all about until I read this kid’s site. For more effective tracking of the ads on my blogs I should know which ads had the better CTR. Were they those placed on the left sidebar, or the right sidebar, or the top banner, those within the post, or the ones at the bottom of the post? The ones placed within a post can be quite tricky, because Google does not like their ads to be confused with the content. Moreover there is the possiblity of accidental clicking.

Anyway, there is still a lot that I need to learn about maximizing Google Adsense on my blogs. For now, I need to get this new blog established enough to where it can attract readers who will come back for more.

Hello world!

August 04, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Blogging News 1 Comment →

Welcome to Puteri’s World.  I love to blog. My blog is about the things that go on in my life, about the weather, about the things I hear on the radio or see on TV or read on the news.

I blog about the foods I love to eat, and cook.  I also blog about my kids and the things that go on with their lives.

Just your old mundane stuff.
