Password and PIN

February 12, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Family Life 3 Comments →

Recently I tried to log in to my library account online to renew the books I had borrowed. I failed each time. Something to do with error in the PIN.

I started scratching my head. :???: What the heck? I use the same password for most things, so as not to complicate matters for myself.

I ended up having to renew my books by phone. Good thing there was another option! I did not want to go to the library just to renew my books!

Yesterday I tried again to log in to my library account online. It suddenly hit me.

PIN.

Not password!

No wonder I failed to log in to my account the last time I tried! Talk about confusing password and PIN!

Forgetfullness on a cold morning

February 05, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Family Life No Comments →

Today is Market Day. I had planned on going to the market this morning after dropping off the kids at their school.

BUT I discovered that I had left their school bag standing on the driveway! I had forgotten to put the bag in the car!

So I went back home and since it was still early and very, very cold, I decided to take my breakfast first and wait till the day warms up a little more before going to the market. Of course on the way, I’d drop off the kids’ bag at their school. Their lunch pail is in the bag and as long as I drop it off before their lunch break I am fine.

I don’t know how many times I have left the bag standing on the driveway.

Portable Heater

January 10, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Family Life, Products No Comments →

radiantheater.jpg

I finally bought a portable heater for my studio. It is the radiant heat kind which means the heat is targeted specifically to the object it is pointing at.

I am now back to working in my studio. Before this the room was unbearably cold. Doug recommended I buy the radiant heater instead of the kind that warms up the air. A small heater is not going to be able to warm up my large studio.

I chose this particular model because of the safety features that come with it. I have small children in the house and I do not want any accident to happen. There were other cheaper models but I told Doug, the paid video post that I did for Packet 8, mostly paid for this one. I only had to chip in another couple of bucks. :-)

The thing about a heater that uses electricity is that it does tend to also increase the amount that comes in your electricity bill! :-)

Cold!

January 03, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Family Life, Weather Stories 2 Comments →

Somehow the last two days seemed to be colder than usual. I have my workstation in my garage turned quilting studio. Yesterday, I refused to work in that room at all. It was too cold for comfort. Doug and I have talked about getting a portable heater for me, but all that remained of that talk, is just that. Talk.

I am back sitting on my high stool using the lap top that is on my kitchen counter-top. The stool is not as comfortable as my executive swivel chair with a massage cushion on it. What to do? I hate the cold.

Maybe this weekend I will insist on getting that heater for the studio! I can’t quilt, or sew in there either. It is just too damn cold!

Piano lessons

January 02, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Family Life No Comments →

I would love for my kids to take piano lessons. I learned to play the piano as an adult but it has been a while since I played the piano.

I wouldn’t mind receiving a newsletter on Piano lessons & piano chords from playpiano.com because my piano playing is not that great, after all, and I have forgotten most of what I have learned!

The newsletter will help refresh what I have learned, and help me play the piano again.

Baked Chicken

December 05, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Cooking, Family Life No Comments →

I am trying to eat less rice and changing my diet because of my blood sugar concerns. For the last couple of days we have been eating baked fish and chicken breasts. Doug loves the food. He thinks he can lose weight with the smaller portion and the healthier cooking style that I am offering.

Last night I ordered three diabetic cookbooks from Amazon.com. Today I found a site that is filled with recipes for the diabetic. In my mind, being a diabetic means you are forever stuck with tasteless food! How wrong I was!

I found all kinds of recipes and they don’t look boring or tasteless at all. I think I can do this. That is change my diet and the kinds of food I eat.

My father is a diabetic and I do not want to end up dependent on insulin. :-( Besides the change in my diet, I will have to seriously get on with exercising regularly. Where exercise is concerned, I am very lazy. But I have to exercise if I want to be free of diabetes.

So like it or not I will have to do it and learn to maintain a positive attitude about it. Ok, how about I start thinking about endorphines, which are happy hormones produced through a good exercise? :-)

Slanket or Fleece Caftan?

December 04, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Family Life, Lifestyle No Comments →

Recently Doug showed me an article he found in a Farm Show Magazine. It was about an online business selling a piece of clothing called the slanket. It is basically a big piece of fleece blanket with large sleeves. The slanket was originally designed for people who were using their laptops on their laps. It is hard to work on your laptop with your hands under your blanket!

I thought I can make a slanket for myself because my studio is a very cold room. But since I haven’t made one yet, today I am wearing my fleece rob over my normal clothes. I used to wear my denim jacket or an outdoor jacket while working in my studio but I think my fleece robe is a lot more comfortable and it keeps me warm too!  Maybe instead of a slanket I should make a fleece caftan because the slanket does not have a back.  A fleece caftan does sound like a splendid idea!  :-)

Christmas DVDs

November 14, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Family Life, Movies No Comments →

I just finished ordering four DVDs from Amazon. Three I know the kids will enjoy and the last one is for Doug and me. I am helping my kids to get into the Christmas mood.

They have started playing some kids Christmas videos at their school/day care, and yesterday Duncan was telling Kathy, my friend and the kids’ reading tutor, that “Santa Claus is coming to town!” Haha.

I get free shipping with this order because if you spend over $25, shipping is free.  Amazon is usually very good about shipping out all orders.  This order should arrive in three days.
