Christmas DVD and CD

November 11, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Music No Comments →

I was at Big Lots this evening and found a section where they had DVDs for only $3. I looked through the titles and decided on one. It’s called Christmas with the Kranks. I don’t think I have seen this movie and because it had Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis in the lead roles, I just had to get it! I love Tim Allen’s acting!

I also found lots of Christmas CDs for $4 each. I had a few in my hands, but at the last minute decided to only get one. The one I got is called Super Star Holiday Hits. The singers are all country singers and among them are Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Lonestar and a few others. I love listening to country music. :-)

Last year my kids and I spent Christmas at my parents’ home in Miri, Malaysia. I was telling Doug that even though I was looking forward to spending the Christmas season here, I also missed spending the time with my parents and my nieces, nephews, brothers and sister. The kids have spent two Christmases in Malaysia and this year will be their second one here.

Yes, I am really looking forward to the holiday season! Martina McBride’s The Christmas Song is helping me get into the mood rather nicely.

The Ukulele

November 08, 2007 By: Puteri Category: Music No Comments →

When I think of the ukulele, I think of Hawaiian breezes, ladies swaying, or the pacific islands in general.

I would not associate the ukulele with stringed instrument virtuoso. But ever since I saw a video of Jake Shimabukuro playing “While my guitar gently sweeps” right there with waterfall in the background, I have fallen in love with the instrument and with Jake Shimabukuro! Talk about a genius with a stringed intrument!

Jake Shimabukuro is one talented guy. He makes the ukulele come alive and the music that comes from it unbelievably sweet! I was totally mesmerized by the virtuosity of his fingers moving across the strings. What a super talented guy! I mean how many well known ukulele players do you know, especially young ones? I can’t say I know any, that is, until I discovered Jake Shimabukuro!

There are some great videos of Jake Shimabukuro on YouTube. There’s a few that I really enjoyed - the ones of Jake jamming with Char, well known guitar player, and with Chris Burgan, another guitar player. What beautiful sounds they made together! The one of Jake and Tommy Emmanuel is simply awesome! Left me totally speechless! :-)
