Palin Derangement Syndrome

September 08, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Politics 1 Comment →

John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate for Vice President has caused the liberal media and Obama supporters to get into a tizzy, nay worse than a tizzy!  They have gone into a PDS - Palin Derangement Syndrome!

It amuses me to no end to observe how low some are willing to go to villify Sarah Palin!  I hope their PDS will come back to bite them in their liberal butt.  The sweetest backlash will be the election of John McCain as the next President of the USA in November.

Super Tuesday

February 05, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Politics No Comments →

It’s Super Tuesday. I can’t vote so whatever I have to say about the political campaigns leading up the the Presidential Elections in November means diddly squat! :-)

But that doesn’t mean I am not passionate about some of the issues at stake in this election. After all whoever ends up being the President of the country, the policies pursued by the next President is going to affect me too.

One thing I know for sure is, if I were a citizen and able to vote, I would never vote for Obama or Clinton.

Multi-culturalism stupidity

January 24, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Free Speech, News, Politics No Comments →

A story based on the Three Little Pigs fairy tale has been turned by a government agency’s awards panel as the subject matter could offend Muslims. The digital book, re-telling the classic story, was rejected by judges who warned that “the use of pigs raises cultural issues”.Becta, the government’s educational technology agency, is a leading partner in the annual Bett Award for schools.

Full story here.

This is simply a case of sheer stupidity of the proponents of multi-culturalism.

Three Little Pigs is now offensive? If one were to follow that line of reasoning, British TV and publication can now never refer to anything that has to do with pigs, pork, bacon, ham? Because they all refer to a subject matter that is “haram” to the group of people that may be offended?

Does that mean also that movies like “Babe”, “Gorky” and even the children television series like Jakers, because they all feature pigs? And classics like Animal Farm will never be used in the public schools again because there are pigs in that book?

The British government should get over the fact that no matter what, people are going to be offended over every little thing. There is no reason for them to give special deference to one particular group of people while ignoring others.

Sheer stupidity, indeed!

Challenges to free speech

January 22, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Free Speech, Politics 1 Comment →

Following up on my earlier post about whether freedom of expression should exclude the right to offend certain groups of people, Canada, the western country that she is, has shown herself willing to limit the meaning of freedom of expression.

The Canadian Human Rights Commission and the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal have begun proceedings against Mark Steyn, well-known author and columnist. His offence? For using language considered “Islamophobic”.

In his book, America Alone, Mark Steyn used a phrase “The number of Muslims is expanding like mosquitoes”! The Canadian Islamic Congress was offended by the phrase and their complaints have resulted in proceedings again Mark Steyn by The Canadian Human Rights Commission and the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal. The thing about the words that Mark Steyn used were not even his! He was repeating a phrase that came from Mullah Krekar, a jihadist who currently resides in Norway.

All I can say is political correctness by Canadians is only going to lead to their downfall. The following video sums up what the wider implications of the proceedings against Mark Steyn are going to be. You allow a small group to chip away at your freedom of speech, they will only come back to chip away more of it.

What freedom of expression is

January 22, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Politics, Religion News No Comments →

What does freedom of expression mean to you? Does freedom of expression include the right to offend others?

According to the Dutch Foreign Minister, Maxime Verhagen, “freedom of expression doesn’t mean the right to offend”. If freedom of expression doesn’t mean the right to offend, then I guess freedom of expression is worthless.

Maxime Verhagen said those words at the prospect of a fellow law-maker’s film that is supposed to be “anti-Islamic” that is going to be released some time next week.

According to Ahmad Badr al-Din Hassoun, the Grand Mufti of Syria, it is the Dutch government’s responsibility to stop Geert Wilders, the law-maker responsible for the making of the film, because if the film is to be found offensive enough, “this will mean he (Wilders) is inciting wars and bloodshed.”

I’m sorry, in this modern day and age, no matter how offensive Jesus Christ and Christianity have been portrayed, I will not start a war or join a war defending my religion and my Savior. My religion teaches me to “turn the other cheek” and teaches me not to take revenge because vengeance belongs to God.

Freedom of expression includes the right to offend otherwise freedom of expression has no meaning.
