Fabric for dresses

February 22, 2008 By: Puteri Category: Fashion Trends, Shopping No Comments →

Like I mentioned earlier, I was at Joanne’s this morning after my doctor’s appointment.  I walked by and even touched some of the bolts of spring fashion fabric but did not actually stop to handle and drape any of the fabric on myself.

Last year, I made a few summer dresses and even made one for my friend.  The dresses I made were based on two patterns only.      I told myself, the patterns worked, and I had success using them!

It is at times like this, that I wished my good friend, Carol was living near by.  She’s the one who sewed most of my clothes when I still lived in Malaysia.  Of course now, I would only ask her for advice on the use of certain patterns, because I would really like to improve my dress sewing skills.

I still have fabric that I bought for summer dresses from two and three summers ago which I never got around to using. No, none of them looks dated because the fabric looks like linen but isn’t and that linen look is still popular this year.

That was why, at Joanne’s today, I had to steel myself and not buy anything which I wasn’t ready use!

Last Minute Shopping

Yesterday, my friend Kathy, and I went shopping at Joann’s. There was a big sale at Joann’s and Kathy wanted to get material for curtains and bumper pads for her first grandchild who will make an appearance to the world in early April. She was able to use discount coupons on everything that she bought.

I bought a book on bag making, some interfacing also for my bag making projects and two pieces of fabric for making more bags! I was also able to use my discount coupons on everything except for one piece of fabric. The fabric was already on sale so I couldn’t use my coupon on it. I paid $5 for half a yard of this fabric … it is faux leather! Heheh, looks very much like the real thing but it is actually made of cotton! Really nice looking!

I still have today and Christmas Eve to do last minute shopping but I don’t think I’ll do any more shopping. I’ll wait for the after Christmas sales for more savings!

The only shopping I need to do is for my Christmas meal. I haven’t decided what I want to prepare. I don’t think I’ll go to all the trouble I did fixing the Thanksgiving meal, because it’ll just be us. My in-laws are on vacation in Europe.

Here’s wishing everyone a blessed and joyous CHRISTmas season.
